Launched by core Celo contributors earlier this year, Self is a ZK-powered identity protocol that enables users to prove their humanity and unique attributes without revealing personal data. Self lets users verify they’re human and share only the data they choose—like proving they’re over 18 without revealing their birthdate—all without compromising privacy or data ownership.
Through this partnership, Google Cloud will integrate Self Protocol with new AI search tools in Google Cloud’s Web3 Portal, power sybil resistance for its Testnet Faucet with proof-of-humanity ZKPs, and provide OFAC sanctions-screening proofs for Google Cloud’s pioneering Mainnet Faucet.
Today, Self supports biometric passports from 129 countries and biometric IDs across 27 EU nations, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia.
“With the proliferation of agentic activity, we’re excited to partner with Self in supporting verified humans across our platform,” says Richard Widmann, Head of Strategy, Web3, Google Cloud. “Self’s technology is seamless and secure, with a team that cares about user protection and privacy, empowering them to disclose only what they want to. We’re excited to explore more opportunities to unlock soon.”
“Since launching earlier this year, Self has proven to be superior in technology and accessibility,” says Marek Olszewski, Self Co-Founder. “We are honored that Google chose our SDK to provide secure, privacy-first identity solutions, and to further drive AI and Web3 innovation for real people.”
ICYMI, Celo and Self co-founder Rene Reinsberg’s also penned an op-ed for The Hill with Arkturos’ Jane Khodarkovsky (cf. “How zero-knowledge tools can help us verify age and protect privacy online”) on how today’s most widely adopted identity verification solutions are not secure enough to protect children from dangerous content and ensure data security. Dive deeper into the piece, and what the Google Cloud announcement signals for the broader adoption of privacy-preserving technology here. Another exciting development yesterday was The Hill’s publication of Celo and Self co-founder Rene Reinsberg’s op-ed, “How zero-knowledge tools can help us verify age and protect privacy online”, written with Arkturos’ Jane Khodarkovsky.
In the article, Rene and Jane explain how today’s most widely adopted identity verification solutions are not secure enough to both protect children from dangerous content and ensure data security. Read Rene’s thoughts on the piece, and what the Google Cloud announcement signals for broader adoption of privacy-preserving technology, here.
