Celo Prosper: EthCC – Édition d’Été 🇫🇷

Bonjour! The Celo ecosystem (cLabs, Self Protocol, Celo Europe DAO, and more) turned up in Cannes last week at EthCC, EthGlobal, and various side events. Highlighting the latest developments in real-world applications of Web3, Ethereum scaling, and privacy-preserving identity infrastructure, Celo was everywhere. From panels and summits to beachside brunches, thanks to our community for advancing the mission to create the conditions of prosperity for all! Highlights include: 

• L2 & Multichain Talks: Celo co-founder & cLabs CEO Marek Olszewski joined leaders in the Ethereum ecosystem for panels at Multichain Day, Taiko’s Based Rollup Summit, L2con, the EthCC Blockfighters debate with NEAR’s Lane Rettig, and the EthCC off-the-record panel “Cash vs. Credo,” highlighting Celo’s transition from EVM L1 to Ethereum L2 and its commitment to secure, builder-first infrastructure.

• ReFi & Public Goods: Celo Europe co-hosted the Blockchain4Good Summit, joined by ecosystem partners like EthicHub, MiniPay, and Funding the Commons to spotlight humanitarian use cases and local currency access. Celo Foundation DevRel Lead Sophia Dew also helped facilitate the ReFi Breakout Fishbowl session with Giveth and community partners.

• MiniPay Momentum: At the MiniPay Beach Soirée, the team looked back on MiniPay’s journey from an Opera Mini integration to standalone app in 50+ countries, and celebrated the upcoming Noah integration and 8M+ activated wallets milestone.  

• ZK + Builder Tooling: Following cLabs’ launch of the Eclair testnet, Marek discussed how going all-in on ZK with SP1 and EigenDA V2 improves Celo throughput and scalability while bringing near real-time confirmation to the network.

Self Protocol also had a jam-packed week, rolling out support for EU IDs and announcing a pilot program with Velodrome while joining fellow ZK experts on panels, and pushing forward the future of decentralized identity.

• On Stage: Co-founder Marek Olszewski unveiled support for EU biometric ID cards and teased the upcoming pilot with Velodrome, introducing boosted rewards for verified humans. 

• Co-founder and CEO Eric Nakagawa also joined panels on DeFi x AI at Olas’ Agents Unleashed and rollup latency at Taiko’s Based Rolled Up, sharing how identity verification supports secure, bot-resistant interactions. Later in the week, Eric took the stage at Akindo’s Builders Showcase, presenting Self’s zkKYC solutions. 

• At the Booth: The team onboarded users to its Self Pass, including the first-ever EU IDs verified by Self, and connected with devs building privacy-preserving integrations, including community listening platform DeepGov.

• Self co-founder and Head of Engineering, Rémi Colin, led a technical workshop at EthGlobal Cannes, where Self awarded $10K in bounties for top SDK integrations, recognizing innovations in both onchain and offchain identity tooling.
